AbstractThe first 300 days of the trajectories and sea surface temperature time series of two (3194 and 3193)WOCE standard surface layer drifter deployed during 93/94 and 96/97 Brazilian Antartic Expeditions, were tracked by NOAA satellites and are used to estimate sea surface layer current (13,60 cm.s toward 57 for drifter 3194; 11,52 cm.s toward 62 for 3193)and its heat transport on the north side of the Polar Front in the Antartic Convergence Zone. Both drifter's trajectories contained meanders and occasional loops throughout the 300 days, moving generally northeasterly during the first 150 days and almost easterly after that. The meridional surface layer (15m)heat transport of drifter 3194 was northward at 10,14 x 10 W.m and the zonal heat transport was to the east at 15,45 x10 W.m . By contrast, the meridional heat transport of drifter 3193 was northward at 2,90 x 10 W.m and the zonal heat transport was to the east at 9,63 x 10 W.m. In the future, we intend to calculate the zonal and meridional heat transport covering the full longitudinal length of the South Atlantic basin.
